I have been on many types of course in my years in IT. I
have never had one like this. The flow of information was
endless and extremely useful. I would happily say it was the
best course I have ever been on! And of course I feel
confident in tuning sql now.

Simply the best technical course I have attended in 20+
years of IT. You do need to have a high degree of SQL Server
knowledge / usage to get the most out of the workshop. I do
not think it’s a workshop as such because although you have
the equipment to try things out you would miss what Ramesh
is saying. Ramesh is excellent. Be prepared to take lots of
notes.

I went for training as a normal SQL Developer and came out
as a DBA. It was very intense course and it really helped me

* Here I am considering tuning issues at the level of
complexity of the course, and not straightforward issues. I
think the confidence will be improved mainly with more
experience, and possibly periodic top-up refresher training.
Overall, I would say I came to the course with higher
expectations than usual, and they were met.

It was very nice to see your magic with SQL Server. I
learned a lot and look forward to use it in the future. It
was clearly an instructor that was well prepared and one
who knows every detail about tuning the SQL Server. A fast
talker but very impressive. How ever I would like to suggest
more hands on exercises with the topics so the students can
gain the experience themselves.

I am very impressed by Ramesh's knowledge of SQL Server
product. It is a pleasure to have an instructor who has
extensive knowledge about how the SQL engine works and can
tell little histories about the development of product.
I
agree that a workshop on monitoring and tuning must contain
information about query optimization but in the real world
it is not always possible to change the SQL we receive from
the applications. It could like to retrieve some tips on the
best ways to solve the top 10 problems.
I think Ramesh
should consider minimizing the time around the optimization
of queries and giving some time to hands-on for some cases
created for the Workshop.
I highly recommend Ramesh as a
consultant - he is lightning fast to catch a problem and
come up with solutions.
Ramesh should perhaps consider
slowing down a little bit - since it is not all that can
follow in that speed - it's level 400 plus.

with the instructor. The instructor was very competent, and

developer so some parts of the workshop were more relevant

The three on the last question is a result of the insight
that it’s a complicated field. It’s one thing to be able to
measure the various performance number, but it’s something
completely different to make sense out of them and act upon
them.
I think Ramseh does a good job on passing along his
vast knowledge. The hands-on style of the workshop is much
better than the PowerPoint battles used elsewhere.

period of time.
No time lost with minor issues that we
all should know so it was really looking at what really
matters and it is not easy to learn only by reading the

Though I really had to concentrate 100% and keep all my
brains together – or maybe, just because of that – it was a
perfect use of time.
It was not a bit too slow nor too
fast and there was not a single comma wasted, you could not
have done better from my point of view.
As far as the
content is concerned, it was exactly, what we needed and
what I hoped for, so the efficiency is impossible to be
topped.
The output gives us a huge push of possibilities
and a most powerful tool in our every-day-work. That really
is, what we searched for.
The 5s are not meant
rhetorical. From my point of view it couldn´t have been done
any better. The 4 in the last row results from my now vast
need of practice to put all the learned into reality.

I enjoyed the course and thought the content was very
interesting – there were some great ideas for quick wins and
some topics that I will have to investigate further.
There is no doubt that Ramesh knows his stuff and the
concepts were communicated well. The course is fast paced
and covers a lot of ground in 3 days.
For me there is one
thing that would have improved the course vastly and that
would have been if the scripts that were used had been
provided up front. This would have allowed me to follow the
content and focus 100% on what Ramesh was saying rather than
having to split my time between listening and taking notes.
In a class where there is so much in depth information being
discussed it is a little frustrating to miss out on some of
the discussion due to taking notes.

examples and in depth knowledge and techniques on how to
trouble shoot, performance tuning and optimization of
queries and server. Perhaps we should be advised to watch
the sqlworkshop video before attending the course and some
brief notes eg the summary at the end of the session will be
useful. One of the best courses, if not probably the best
course, I had attended.

slide – this already shows the high quality of the workshop.
Ramesh provides a good mix of performance theory embedded in
live examples and real-life anecdotes from his vast

Just want to start this thread and give
some feedback on the Workshop that I attended last week at
Microsoft.
Three days in a row, deep dive into the query
optimization and performance monitoring :-) I must say, that the
SQL guru Ramesh has all the tricks up in his sleeves.
The
workshop was very helpful and what's most important: no slide
show marathon: samples after samples explained very clearly
and with our own class room SQL servers we can try the same
stuff while Ramesh typed his own samples.
If the workshop
will be rearranged, I can most willingly recommend it to anyone
who wants to know what's "under the hood" of SQL Server 2008.

It was a very good workshop, and I really
learned a lot. It was very good to hear the stories from the
‘inside’ of both the engine and the company. I was also very
pleased to see the method used to demonstrate the various
performance problem and use of especially DMV’s. This is very
useful. Another topic was the query plan and statistics which I
also found very useful. I really got a lot useful techniques to
use in my work.

A great workshop consisting of an overwhelming variety of
insight into SQL-Server, and lots of full-of-wit approaches on
tuning methods! With the focus on fallacies and pitfalls, a
common sense on performance issues is developed. The solutions
to these problems point out the strengths of SQL-Server, thus
giving the participants a pretty good understanding of “how to
do it right”!

structured and I learned much new things from Ramesh. This
workshop should be a compulsory workshop for every SQL Server
administrator/developer. I hoped it lastet another two days

Your workshop was really excellent. What I missed somehow was a
little time to experience the issues/topics on my own server. I
found it difficult to really look into it, when 11 others where
checking the same stuff out on the same server. But this is
nothing disturbing, just a small inconvenience.
As I told you, I think the course is ideal
for dev’s and admins, because you cover pretty much the
interests of both groups (which is challenging most of the
time).

Very accurate presentation and easy to follow the relationship
between the introduced tools (views and sp's) and the
architecture of SQL-Server. A bit much of information to keep
all such in mind to start through with the earned knowledge, but
a very good guideline to understand the mechanics and to use
this for developing own way's to handle SQL-Server.
